Credit Crunch Cure: Would this actually work?

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new British CAR. Twenty million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime rate fixed

5) Buy £50 of alcohol / tobacco a week there's your money back in duty / tax etc

Where are you going to find a British car?

Stunning!

The VAT on the cars/fags/alcohol alone is, er a very big number:smt101, a lot of money going straight back to the Treasury + all the other benefits to the economy.

Surely there is a do-able number at say 60yrs old that could be funded.

So, £50 a week on alcohol/tobacco......the money will need to go straight back into the NHS when they are filling hospitals with all manner of health problems.

Also....how many 50 year olds or over are putting children through school? Maybe a handful that have had questionable IVF or have to care for grandchildren. Crime rate unaffected.

Just my thoughts.................but oh how lovely it would be if money did grow on trees!!!
