henry allingham aged 113 passed away

just watched some news reel of him, looks like he was a great man. put his longevity down to fags girls and booze!!

My grandfather who died when he was 97 got machine gunned at the Somme and his stories were horrendous. Funnily enough he had a dislike for Germans for the rest of his life.

I was going to reply to this post when I saw it first thing this morning, but couldn't think of anything that did justice to what this man, and all the people who fought through experiences I can only imagine, have done

Just 2 English-born ww1 vets left now... I recommed Last Post by Max Arthur - written about 4 years ago he interviewed all surviving ww1 vets alive at the time and it tells their stories in their words....

What a totally top bloke. to live to 113 and still have that attitude on life and of course death.
Its peope like him who need to be running the country imho. People who have fough for it, lost their friends for it and been around long enough to know war is futile and clearly the guy has no ego that needs stroking.
If only our Govt was filled with fellas like him and not the self serving spongers who will say anything and do anything and send other peoples kids to die for their own political gains.
