Lap Timing
Been speaking to Zombie about this. (Cheers Chris :thumleft:)
He uses a GPS recorder and some sort of computer programme to upload the data to after. They cost from between £45 - £75. Also seen things like stop watches that could be attached to the yoke and pressed once when crossing the line each lap. These can then be looks at after each session on track to see what best, worst and average times were as well as laps completed. What sort of things do you racers and track day addicts use??? Any suggestions welcome. :D |
Re: Lap Timing
Well officially you arent allowed to use timing equipment on a track day. So this rules out beacon timers because you place the beacon on the pit wall. So you are limited to manual timers which arent very accurate and to be honest take your mind off the riding in the first place.
Ive heard pretty good things about the GPS ones but the higher the Hz the more accurate they are. For a 5Hz timer you are looking at a minimum of £150. |
Re: Lap Timing
I've got a timer built into my electronic dash activated by a button where the horn button normally is, I've never managed to push it properly, to busy trying to hold onto the handlebars.....
A mate of mine has just bought a GPS based one which is brilliant, on your first lap out you set the start/finish point (warm up lap, going nice and slow) and you can even put in some split lap points if you want. After that you just ride. At the end of the day you can look at all your lap times and if you connect it too a laptop you can actually compare your lines from one lap to another. Cost him about £350. |
Re: Lap Timing
Daytona 675 has a built in lap timer activated by the engine start button, never fully got my head round it but had plenty of functions on offer...

Re: Lap Timing
It's far easier to get some scantily clad female to operate a stop watch from the pit wall, has the added advantage they can perform other services as well, like clean your visor between races....
