fork oil again
 

just changing the fork oil on my curvy (never done this before ) its allready got progressive springs in so a couple questions.

first took it all apart now silly me cant remember which way the springs go is it the tight wind in first or the other way round ?

2nd read that it takes 488cc of oil is it still the same with these springs in and how do you go about messuring this amount ?

Tight part of the springs at the top of the fork legs. If you're going to use a measure amount you need a measuring glass marked out in CC's.

You'll get one on Ebay or at a surpliers of chemistry equipment, or possibly at your M/C dealers. My deal sold big syringes, so you could suck it up in measured amounts until you get 488cc.

But the conventional method is to measure the air gap in mm. I can't remember what it is for the Hagon's I fitted, something like 140mm, but with or without springs :confused:

This way you get the same amount in each leg.

If you give Hagon a call they will tell you what the air gap should be :thumbsup:

You measure the distance from the top of the oil to the top of the fork, with the fork leg upright.

I've got standard springs, and you measure the oil with the spring removed.

Good afternoon all.

If you have Hagon springs in your bike it would as suggested be worth ringing them to get the correct air gao they're on; 020 8502 6222.If you have a different make of spring fitted, it's anyones guess unfortunately.

When doing the oil level make sure you have the forks fully compressed & with the spring removed. Also after adding the oil pump them up & down several times. This will help remove all the air bubbles. Let them settle & then set the gap.

Good afternoon again.

Absolutely the best piece of kit for measuring such things as fork oil has got to be a babies bottle. They're usually available up to 250cc & have pretty clear graduations on the side. Just don't nick a live babies one without earplugs:D
