help needed-numpty at large

Evening folks,
I've been a bit of a plonker here.
Did a quick search, couldn't find a related thread.
Basically...just topped up my oil then nipped out to the cashpoint.Got there and found an oily right leg and boot and no filler cap(doh!)
Journey was 2 miles max. There was a little oil left when I realised and then rode home very gently.
Have walked back to cashpoint and searched the garden and driveway-no cap to be found.
Bike is already booked for 7500mile service tomorrow.

2 questions
1. Have I f*~ked the engine up.
2.If not any ideas for a bodge to get me to the bike shop tomorrow.

Now approx 1 litre of oil in the bike.

Chris

Can't see that much coming out!!! That would mean you lost 1.4l of oil. Did you check the oil as soon as you turned the bike off? If not you would have needed to wait as there would have been oil still waiting to drop outta the engine.

Erm don't have any proven bodges but I guess a bit of tape to stop the splashes coming out will get you to the bike shop.

will go and have another check now.I think tape and a suitable cork from a bottle of single malt will do the trick.

Thanks

Yeah cork is a good idea. Just make sure it doesn't fall into the engine block. Id be tempted to wrap PVC tape around the cork making it oversized and then being able to screw it into the thread thats already there.

I wouldn't put cork in it. Too easy for a bit to break off and fall in

Also, double check the driveway

If you do the cork thing then wrap it in a condom of other suitable thingy, like the finger off a washing up glove. As said above you dont wanna contaminate it with bits of cork floating about.

I did this once, so you're not alone. I was lucky that i found the cap tho :)

the stopper from a bottle of 12yo glenfiddich is a perfect fit!
A bit of tape for good measure.

Cheers

dont forget it gets hot down there so i hope its a short trip and the stopper dont get melty, that would be bad.

Its getting that oil smell out your trouser leg thats the next challenge.

trial cork removal didn't go so well....

Half fell back inside.

Sharpened bicycle spoke fished it out.
Bike will not be started.
Luckily I'm moving house this weekend so have a van to ferry it to the shop under a cloud of daftness.
Thanks for the advice folks.
I will now finish the Glenfiddich with no top.

Chris
