Wobble and instability
Hi Everyone,
Recently bought an 04 pointy and seem to have some handling problems. At about 60mph the handle bars wobble left to right by a good inch or so. Doesn't seem to be a problem, just unnerving. Used to have a 400 honda, and the bike was always stable, could take my hands of the bars when rolling upto traffic lights. Can't do the same thing on the SV. Plus the handling is vague and saps all my confidence so I just end up riding everywhere like an old woman. I feel like i'm continually trying to pick the bike up in corners. Can't work out of its the tyres (BT014's - pressures are ok), suspension set up or head bearings or something. Anyone else have the same problems or any suggestions on how to sort the bike out? |
Re: Wobble and instability
get your wheels ballanced... and or change the tyres.

Re: Wobble and instability
Have you set the suspension up for your weight?
If its not correct the handling can be horrible. |
Re: Wobble and instability
The suspension s just on the standard setting sat the mo. I weigh about 13 stone in my gear so i should prob increase the pre load.

Re: Wobble and instability
google for a guide on setting up your suspension, mine was well out and it transformed the bike when i set it up. It doesnt take long and its well worth doing.

Re: Wobble and instability
Squared off Tyres for handling problems, and I'd say wheel balance for the wobble.
Actually exactly what Richie said. |

For 13 stone though I'd have them front all the way in and the rear at the hardest setting. Definately think the problem lies in the tyres. |
Re: Wobble and instability
Don't want to fork out for a full set of tyres, do you think i should try the front first?

Re: Wobble and instability
run ur hand over the profile of the tyre and make sure its still a smooth arch not egg shaped or diffrent each side.
