Re: Playing with my chopper.
How do you get it upside down, Surely the rotors would push it down towards earth...?

Re: Playing with my chopper.
Hee hee. Yeah, lots of practice. Started heli's in Jan this year so am quite chuffed how things are going.
Yep, basically you change the pitch of the blade so that it blows the other way. Ooeer! Oh and mode 2 (left throttle) all the way! |

some planes use variable pitch props that work on the same principles as collective pitch lol i am such a nerd :p |

Re: Playing with my chopper.
you obviously don't fly remote control stuff in Scotland! think everyone I know flys mode 2! the best laugh I've had in ages tho is indoor flying. small foam/polystyrene planes and a big gym hall makes for a great laugh!

Re: Playing with my chopper.
I don't know anyone who uses mode 1. Everyone I know uses mode 2. So you're the weirdo! :D
Yep, fixed pitch the altitude is governed my the speed at which the rotors spin. If you want to go higher, increase the throttle. Want to come down? Reduce the throttle. Collective pitch is where you change the angle of the rotor blade. So to go higher you increase the pitch of the blade, want to go lower, decrease the pitch of the blade. This means you can set the throttle to something constant and just use the pitch to control your altitude. Collective pitch heli's also have the added bonus of being able to autorotate. In short, you can turn off the engine and still be able to land safely and under full control. Yep, me be a heli-nerd!! :smurf: |
