Cleaning of textile trousers?

hey

is it ok just to wash em in the bath tub with small amount of washing powder? just need to get rid of the, shall we say, aroma in them. they aren't really dirty or anythhing but 1 yr old and worn often has caused errr nostril offence.

Dont use washing powder. Especially if they are Goretex you'll ruin it, its something to do with the biological action of the powder.

Non Bio is better, but best best is soap flakes. I used baby shampoo on mine when I washed them in the bath which worked OK to.

The best IMHO is the Nikwax Techwash that you can buy from Milletts or any camping shop, take the armour out, turn them inside out and bung them in the machine on a wool or cool wash.

You'll need to reproof them once you've done otherwise they'll leak, again Nikwax do a wash in reproofer that you can use in the machine or you can get the spray on stuff to.

cheers mate - thing is i won't have a washing machine for another 2 weeks at least (moved into house and been renovating it so been living in one room for past 18 days). taken on way too much with my muppet like DIY skills.

will some reproofer but i will use baby shampoo then. like i said its only the smell to get rid of.

You can use the tec wash and reproofer in a hand wash. Much better than baby shampoo and the result will be waterproof textiles.

I take it they don't have a removable lining? I just take that out and shove it in the washing machine.

I use the nikwax stuff too, excellent stuff, my cheapie textiles came out more waterproof than they were new. And also, I waterproofed my arms.

Yeah, just threw 'em into the washing machine (liner and armour taken out) with some non-bio and it did the job.

Wash by hand and use NikWax

Just a quick note regarding the use of the spray re-proofing stuff - it needs to be sprayed on whilst the garment is still damp. That is all. Chin
