Sore knees.

..On the bike ...)

Anyone have any insight/tips/remedies for this? I can't work out if this is because of the peg position or if I just put too much weight on the pegs but after a lengthy ride I tend to get achey knees. It usually depends on the pace as to how much it hurts, i.e went on a trackday and after 10 minutes was in pure agony.

Ideas any one?

P.S I'm just over 6ft - the bikes a pointy 650

Did you ever get the problem on your old bike? If not it's likely to be down to the riding position of your new bike.

I'm the same height as you Dave and i felt no difference between the curvy and pointy as far as my knees went. My butt is a different story tho.

I tend to stand on the pegs frequently tho as i ride, so perhaps thats worth a try if you feel the knees stiffening up.

I used to not get it at all when I rode every day. Now I dont ride as much I do get sore knees after a few hours on the bike.

I find it worse when I'm sat in the same position for a long time i.e on the motorway, if I am riding through twisties alot I move about on the bike which seems to stop it occuring.

Hmm interesting, I do definitely ride less than I used to ( :( ) , though I'm sure it's happens more on twisties than when straight lining.

Do you sit fairly close to the tank, or with your butt pressed up against the rear seat? Its worthy trying both and seeing is it makes a difference i guess. There are times when i feel a hamstring craamp coming on that i actually sit on the pillion seat and ride like that. Makes for interesting corners thats for sure!

I do tend to sit a bit close to the tank, last few times out on the bike I've been concious of it and trying to sit a little further back. Good consideration! I'll see if it helps.

And change your foot position too mate. If you usualy ride with your instep on the pegs try the toes instead etc. YOu know how your ankle bone is connected to you shin bone, your shin bones connected to your knee bone etc ;)
Seriously tho, all those muscle groups can have an effect on each other and could be putting pressure on the tendons round your knee to take the stop cramping up or something like that.

I've thought about that but I find it really hard to corner without my toes on the pegs , you speak sense though.
