Test Ride not allowed!

Called into Kestrel Honda yesterday to look at a bike, phoned this morning to book a testride & was told I can't!:smt102
Is a 2nd hand bike, but they have a rule on the insurance that you have to have been riding over 1 year to be covered.
Is this normal ???
How the fork can you decided what bike you want without a test? or are we all supposed to wait over a year before we take anything out.
Said that most dealers are like this, they all have the 1 year rule.
Before anyone asks, i am old & grey.

Suggestions please

Go somewhere that isn't run by ****s. Or go to a private seller who's doing the 'you bin it you buy it' thing... risky but at least you get your test ride.

I went to testride a Fazer last week and the guy (who'd been falling over himself to welcome me and suggest things and such) was the exact opposite - cold and unpleasant. He said the Fazer I'd seen previously was gone and he was NOT going to let me testride the other one he still had as it was out of my price range and he 'wasn't in the business of doing test rides' as it's a huge risk for them in case I crash, I can only have a test ride if I was seriously considering buying it, etc etc etc.

Suffice it to say I bought my bike from another dealer. In case they haven't noticed, there's a recession on so being nice to customers is more important than ever.

How rubbish.

I went to my dealer when I was 24 to test ride the SV, all they wanted was proof I had a licence to ride, signed a disclaimer/agreement with a damage excess and off I went!! (then ordered one).

Never, ever, been told that!! Sounds like a load of Bo-lacks to me. Like you say, how can you make a decision as to whether you buy it or not!!

Midland Superbikes is a bit far for you, but they seem perfectly happy to allow test rides. We've seen newly-qualified riders allowed out.

Sounds like a BS excuse to me, having a licence for one year doesn't mean you rode in that year does it?

I didn't even have my paper counterpart when I testrode the SV, they ummed a bit but agreed. It paid off for them.

Some places are really funny. I was considering a brand new SV but the dealer had no demonstrators so they wouldn't let me have a test ride even though there were 3 SVs sat in the showroom. So they wanted me to spend nearly 5k on a bike I had never even ridden, needles to say I went elsewhere.
