quick bike q's

Ok just a quick one

Sv1000 or raptor (both naked)

i keep hearing about the suspension on both being a bit poor. Seeing as i like in pot hole city (hudds voted worst roads in the uk) and we have hills up in the north :) im after something thats goingt o be nice and stable.

Are either of the above any good? or will they need upgrades like the sv650?

I had a raptor 1000. KitKat has one at the minute. Nowt wrong with the suspension on them and they're good fun to ride. Most have problems with the back brake though (Ask DirtyDog and KitKat). Try www.raptorchapter.com if you fancy getting one.

Yeah I've heard of the back brake issues, Carnivore has one and rates it other than that I believe. I wouldn't mind one neither, worth having just for the sound

I've had a go down the burnham bends on a sv1000 and I wasn't as fond of it, it felt boggy lower down and not quite as nimble. Faster roads it probably eats though. Although I might have just not been happy with my experience as I was pretty distracted by not wanted to crash the thing! Depends on the riding you do I guess.
I'm guessing the SV thou is pretty much on the same budget suspension as the SV so probably would benefit from the usual mods.

Raptor far superior to SV1000. The usual phrase that comes out of carnivores mouth 'TL1000S engine, detuned for more torque. Sat in Italian geometry for much better handling and fun'
Yes Carnvore is the one that is the expert on that darn back brake issue. Hey I might even steal it out of my own shed and ride it one day, before she leaves for good :-(...mwahahahahaha
I'm sure if I asked him nicely you could come and have an ogle at her. He'd also give you all the ups and downs(which there aren't many downs) of them.
Suspension is fine on the Raptor better than the SV, plus the brakes are Brembos, so much better too.

Mind you saying that, you've seen her before, ahh what the hell, come and drool some more! :-)

The SV1000 is not crap on the suspendies, people say the SV1000 and the SV650 are similar. In fact, from reading reports from others and talking to one member in particular about his, they are highly dissimilar.

Best way to see what you like is test ride them both if you can Andy :)

SV1000 suspension is not budget like the 650. No idea how it stacks up against the raptor though.

Aye i understand its better but by how much, with talk of people swapping to gsxr forks it makes me worried. The raptor has usd forks as standard so thats nice :)

Erm, that is the pointy SV650's that swap to Gixxer forks mate, not so many swaps on the SV1000. Thats not to say there haven't been any.
