regulator rectifier

i recently posted a thread about cold starting, faulty battery or r/r

iv charged the battery its holding charge and iv tested the r/r and the alternator, they all seem to be ok.

iv done a few test on each and these are my findings

battery voltage is above 12.8 and holding
r/r with diode test it all seems to be ok
and the alternator is chargeing to 90volts ac at 5000rpm

this is the weired thing when the bike is on idel it charges at 17 to 18 volts and around 16 volts when at 5000 rpm
but when i have full beam on the readings are at 13 to 14 volts both at idel and 5000rpm as soon as the lights are off the voltage goes up to 17 to 18 volts ?

could there still be a problem with the r/r if anyone has any ideas please let me know and ill post all the data tonight from the tests i did.

got to go playing golf at lunch

That reg-rec is FRIED to a battery melting degree!

Charge voltage needs to be 13.5>14.5V. Over 15V and things start to melt...

Probe (+) (+) (+) (+) (+)
Red Y(1) Y(2) Y(3) B/w
(-) Red X 0.4-0.7 0.4-0.7 0.4-0.7 0.5-0.8
X ok ok ok ok
(-) Y(1) 1.5 X 1.5 1.5 0.4-0.7
1.7 X 1.8 1.8 0.46
(-) Y(2) 1.5 1.5 X 1.5 0.4-0.7
1.7 1.8 X 1.8 0.46
(-) Y(3) 1.5 1.5 1.5 X 0.4-0.7
1.7 1.8 1.8 X 0.44
(-) B/W 1.5 1.5 1.5 1.5 X
1.5 1.7 1.7 1.7 X

ok this is what i got the black is what the readings are ment to be and the red is what i had, according to the stuff i found out it its higher that or inbetween the readings everything is fine ?

does this make any sence to anyone ?

also found out it might be bag earth or bad conection at plug so will change them on the wknd

No, that makes b0llock all sense.

If battery voltage is 18v at tickover the reg-rec is duff, end of. It is not regulating properly.

To support YC's statement

you, sir, need a new regulator/rectifer.

Possibly a new battery aswell?

I am trying to make head or tails of this. Are the readings above in voltage or ohms? I thought that you do the above test with the meter set on 'DIODE' with the regulator terminations unplugged. The manual says to check for voltage. I'm scratching my head here...

+2; do not run the bike any further unless you want to fry your battery. Search for the many threads on R/R replacement or this http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=106041 which I posted for Zunkus.

Thanks for your help ixlr8. I just ordered a CBR600RR '07 one from fleebay for £40. It's in the post. Hope it gets here before the weekend. I'll post later with the outcome as soon as fitted. Maybe snap some pics of the process to help others with the mod...
