Gear shifting problem - thoughts?
 

Ok, I'm at work and haven't had a good look yet, but just wanted to get some ideas as to what could cause this problem:

Over the weekend, I had trouble shifting down - typically in corners which involved more than one shift. My bike has reverse shift so I'm lifting the lever to change down. I'd be on the brakes and would change from 6th > 2nd, letting the clutch out each time and blipping. It would shift from 6th > 5th and then stay in 5th after the next clutch/blip instead of shifting to 4th. Sometimes I'd have to pull up on the lever 4-5 times to change down 3-4 gears. In the end I had to be very positive on the lever otherwise it would just stay in the same gear.

I had problems before with a poorly adjusted chain causing issues, but the chain seems to be adjusted correctly. Oil was changed very recently. Only thing I can think of is the angle of the shift lever being too low and not returning completely after a shift (generally the first shift is good).

Thing is - I seem to remember having similar issues changing up sometimes when I had the stock rearsets and regular shift pattern (going down a straight for example). :scratch:

What kind of things could I look at to try and iron out this niggle

You seem to have highlighted the common causes. Chain tension, oil level, clutch adjustment, lever position. Try cleaning and lubing the pivots and linkages on the gear change. If they are gummed up it may stop the lever retuning properly.

I had similar issues with the Ducati when I had an issue with my clutch which was causing it to drag.

I'd hazard a guess that your clutch cable (if 675's are cable) needs adjusting, or if it's Hydraulic it needs bleeding or possibly even new fluid.

Either way I reckon pulling in the clutch isn't fully disengaging.
