Brake Master Cylinder
 

I was just pondering the other day about my brakes. I was wondering how important the master cylinder is in the overall power and feel of the brakes themselves, and would a more capable master cyclinder be a usefull upgrade, instead of swaping out calipers which may also require adaptor platesto be made up

Its not something I'm considering doing, but I wondered what I might experiance if I did use, say, a GSXR master cylinder.

oh, and for the purposes of argument, lets consider the front brakes only :)

A naked curvy front master cylinder is perfectly capable of stopping a bike that weighs about 20% more than an SV, putting out 50% more power, with a heavier rider than you are.

I know this for fact - its what I have on my Z750 :)

I stuck a GSXR radial m\c on a couple of weeks back.

Personally I think it's the best upgrade I've done on the bike. It requires far less squeezing to stop - and it stops quick.

I guess I should emphasise (sp?) a little.
I didn't drain the fluid from the lines - so it nothing to do with rebleeding the brakes. I'm running standard EBC pads and the original discs.
Stopping now requires two fingers, which it did before, but with less effort. Before if I was in a hurry stop, one those "oh crap" moments, I needed 3 fingers. For me personally it has given me so much more confidence in the brakes - i would recommend this upgrade to anyone.

Giving it a GSXR master cyclinder is going to be a whole lot cheaper than a complete brake change. Get a 2nd hand one and fit it, if it don't work, then sell it on.

This is also something i am intrested in as my fr brakes arent all that good.

pmapp what year and model gsxr did you use one off?

Soulkiss - I was considering a curvy naked master cylinder on my bike the other day, look tidier and might be better for using handlebar muffs with

You'd need to look at the bore/stroke compared to the SV, obviously there's no point sticking in another m/c that's the same.

Depends what you want to achieve by swapping the m/c though? Do you want more or less lever travel?
