Specialone not so special anymore !

While on a recce today for my rideout next week in Ross-on-wye, i managed to have my first off.
Went down on a right hander on the left side WTF?
I hit the curb, bike kinda landed on some of me but managed to avoid the armco which was about a foot or so further back into the small grass verge.
I was with DMC, been riding all morning in soaking wet roads with no probs, road was dry, stretch was a 's' bend with a left hander first which i went round a bit quicker than i would normally do but no probs but decided to shave some speed off for the upcoming bend, next im half on the kerb with bike on top of me.
It happened so quick, i remember running wide a bit, but i think i hit some wet earth on the road, braked but not excessive, front went, i think i must have tried to stand bike up cos it went down on left hand side.
Dmc was in front so hadnt seen me be a numpty.
Fair play to cage drivers, every single one who come past stopped to see if i was ok.
Fellow biker stopped with his pillion and got off to see if i was ok.
Damage so far,
Bar end bent,
Upper fairing severly cracked and gouged,
R/h indy,
Dented tank where bars hit it,
Usual gear shifter,
Clutch lever,
Slight scratches on rad and (gear box?) cover,
Scuffed pillion peg.
The worrying thing is my yoke is not straight when riding in a straight line and my bars are slightly bent, im hoping if i release clamps on yoke it might straighten up.
Had to ride last 70 miles using gear shifter with no bar on it, got quite good at in the end lol.
Anyway, will update on repairs as and when.
Thanks to DMC btw for helping me come to my senses and get my head straight, even going out of his way on way home for me, thanks Dave.
Phil

Unlucky.
Braking cranked over, it's a lesson many of us have learnt the hard way.

If the bars hit the tank, something is amiss, check the lockstop on the frame and bottom yoke.

Glad you're ok yourself, especially after last weeks tragedy.

Bikes can be fixed or, at worst, unimportant damage lived with.

Did you use your front or rear brake to shave the speed off?

I will Chris, just chillin tonight have a proper look tomorrow.
I feel like punching fook out of myself for being such a tw*t.

Actually chris, bars dont touch tank now so might have been kerb that dented the tank, just assumed as it was by the bars.

I used both as normal, there wasnt a great deal of speed to shave off, i guess i was doing 30 when i binned it, still dont really know what happened, i think with hindsight if i would have leant over a shade more i would have made the corner no probs, i think i panicked a bit when the armco and kerb were closer than i would like.

A lot of people could have made the corner but get target fixation. Most of us have done it.

I try to be in a gear which, if I close the throttle, will slow me down or use the rear brake only. Easy enough to say though eh?

Take it as a lesson learnt. We are all still learning on some level.

I do the same with the gearing normally as it pulls well then when you start accelerating out the corner.
I dont think it was the amount of front brake that did to be fair, maybe lack of experience on my part i dont know.
