Fuel in air filter housing

Having just removed the air filter to exchange for a new one, there is a small but noticeable amount of fuel inside the housing and on the base of the K&N filter. Is this normal? From the Haynes it seemed it should be dry/ dusty in there. If this is wrong then what is the likely cause?

TIA, am worried now!! Kelly x

very likely oil thats been vented up the crankcase breather pipe. If you are going to light it make sure there's a video camera running.

p.s. please dont do that

Why are you replacing a K&N filter? It's reusable, just clean it and reoil it. Unless it's damaged of course?

And stop doing so many wheelies KJ, thats how the oil/fuel can get up in there too you see.

Or when you flip the bike several times :smt009

As said - likely to be oil, petrol probably would have evaporated by the time you got to checking it (I think)

Like maviczap says k&n's last forever! They recommend a clean every 50-100k though:roll:

It definitely smelt like fuel but had the consistency of oil so im not gonna worry. Im gonna take your advice and clean and refit the K&N.

I didnt realise they were reuseable, just thought they were expensive, doh! Thats why you guys are so great - im new to all this mechanical stuff and it never crossed my mind to see what was on the bike before ordering another, another lesson learnt.

The good news is the bike's fully serviced and raring to go :-) I just need to get rid of my flu :-(

We're here to help. That's saved you £40 at least :p

You'll need some stuff to clean it with, then some oil to re oil it. But much cheaper than a complete new K&N!

Airboxes usually smell of petrol (or diesel) as some mist is always going to penetrate the plastic to leave a residual odur
