Bit of sliding today in the wet!

I think the Avon Storms are approaching the end of their useful life after feeling the rear end slide about on my way to work. They've done about 5,000 miles, and are getting towards the wear markers.

The only thing that bothers me is that the Storms had been quality up until very recently in the wet, when they just seemed to "go off" all of a sudden. Has anyone else found this?

Maybe I'm just expecting a bit much?

To be fair you have probably just used to alot of dry grip, the roads are REALLY greasy at the moment, no tyre is brilliant on greasy roads.

rain mine are good, dry perfect....but that light rain or slightly frosty dewy morrnings the back locks at the slightest bit and just feels horrible.

I've had this with tyres. Good in the dry, then comes to the wet and it honestly feels like im riding on ice (roads that lorries dump derv on the road really doesn't help).

Only thing I can suggest is to change brand of tyres, maybe find some reviews of tyres that have been proven good on UK roads in the wet.

first rain of the season... always makes the roads more greasy than usual.

I'd not put it down to the first rain of the season syndrome on the basis that it's been wet for the last week weeks up here. Tyres just seem to have been fine in the damp / wet until very recently and then just gone off which is a bit strange.

Up until now the tyres had been awesome in all weather and I'd had no complaints at all. I've tried other makes and models and these had been the best I've used thus far. I reckon there's about another 1000 miles in them, but I think I'd prefer to do those in the Spring!

It shouldn't be a problem for too long though if I pull my finger out and get the old 250 road worthy to use through winter.

I don't think it's the tyres mate.

From exprience, new or worn, the Storms grip real good in all weathers. You just have to believe me when I say "I've tested the theory to the Max" :o ;)

Cheers

Just fitted em to my Dullsville so I hope they are OK. my ZZR feels twitchy at the mo on BT021's and they are only on 4k or so. I usually get 8-9k out of em. just the time of year I think, tyres aint as warm and roads are covered in carp. moisture never really gets out of the air too.
