Cardboard/liquid gasket
New engine has no LHS engine case, so am transplanting mine from the dead engine. Unfortunately it needs a new gasket, and I can't get hold of one before Sunday by the looks of things.
So...make a gasket out of cardboard, or would liquid gasket be ok? I'm planning on getting a proper one ASAP, but need the bike running by Monday. |
Re: Cardboard/liquid gasket
Breakfast cereal packet will be OK I'd have thought
Wouldn't leave it on there for years but it'll get you through until Suzuki get you a proper one |
Re: Cardboard/liquid gasket
Neeja,
I've found a place that has one in stock. I'm happy to go get it but only problem is, "will it get to you tomorrow, if sent first class by Royalmail? Alternatively, I'm guessing special delivery for Saturday might do it but of course will bumb price up. Or you could check interparcel and see if you can get a Saturday delivery..... Hopefully , you se this post sooner, trather than later , as I have to leave soon. Cheers Ben |
Re: Cardboard/liquid gasket
Righto, just checked Royalmail site and Saturday delivery(by 1PM) would cost no more than £8.90 . 'By 9am' would cost should cost no more than £15
Let us know if you want to do that....got to leave soon, as I said. Cheers Ben |

RM say they're "prioritising" SD and Recorded items, tbh I think it's a lottery, we've received our post yesterday and today |

Re: Cardboard/liquid gasket
Yeah, this has been the problem with delivery :) I think I'll go down the cereal packet route and order one to arrive whenever the post's better. It only has do to 10 miles per day in the meantime, so should be fine.
Cheers guys :) |
Re: Cardboard/liquid gasket
H'mm ceral packet will be ok, but from my boating engineering days we bought sheets of gasket material and cut out our own. You can get it in various thicknesses.
But the only thing is where to get it from? Engineering surplies I'd guess, it's not the sort of thing you'd get from a motoring shop. |
Re: Cardboard/liquid gasket
Be bloody careful with liquid gasket should you go that route. Any excess squessed off into the engines internal could block an oil journal etc. Its been the cause of more than a few engines demise!
