*Shameless plug for the Royal British Legion*
It's good that we remember all those that have fallen for us, but why not check out what your local Legion is up to - it's a cheap beer at the very least and you're raising funds at the same time! I got into the Legion as an ex-serviceman a few years ago, I've made some good friends along the way, and our local one is a very child-friendly night out in a town where most pubs don't like families |
Re: Remembrance Sunday
I always find Nimrod a very moving piece of music at these times...even Abide with me by the Fron Choir brings a tear or two to the eye...:(

Re: Remembrance Sunday
Striking train drivers should be ashamed of themselves- striking on a day when so many people want to get to the cenotaph.
FYI, a future in-law told me that you don't need to have seen service to join the British Legion. The war memorial in my village was well attended. |

@ Sean C
Very true, you don't need to have been in the services to join the Legion. At the time I joined you needed 1 member to recommend you if you were ex-services, and 2 members if you hadn't served. I think these days it's the same across the board, as long as 1 current member recommends you, you can apply to join |
Re: Remembrance Sunday
112 Service men and women had died in the last year alone.

Re: Remembrance Sunday
Went to the Parade on the Embankment in Nottingham. Ibby was parading with her squadron. I remembered my great Uncle Harold, though I never knew him, I remembered the driver of a mate's son's reconiasance unit that got killed by a landmine in Afganistan, though I never knew him, I remembered Dangerous Dave, though I never knew him. and I remember countless others who I never knew. And I cried.
