Trip to Ireland 2010
 

Hey!

I'm planning a trip to Ireland next August ish for about 7days with my girlfriend. Just wondered if anyone had any recommondations for routes to take.

These are the places we would like to see:

Giants Causeway
Newgrange
Cliffs of Moher
Wicklow national park
Glendalough
Guiness brewery
An Dingean
Garraun point.

You really ought to think about a few places in Northern Ireland too y'know. Northern Ireland is simply stunning. I especially like County Down and County Fermanagh. It is just so so beautiful, like you'd imagine England in the 1950s. Don't miss it.

I will be takeing my bike over there next year for about a week, altho will be going by car in august you should deffenatly take in the ring of kerry down through the lakes and reeks, have fun, Dom

Doneygal (sp??) area is amazing !!!

Theres a place called Downings, which has a road right around the top of the Island called 'Atlantic Drive' ......... nice !!!

Why not go in May and take in the North West 200?

Although I am from Northern Ireland, I had never done a proper holiday until last March. Starting in Lisburn (parental home) we went up round the Antrim coast (brilliant road) to Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede rope-bridge. The rope bridge being far, far better than the Causeway. From there south west to Connemara which is simply stunning. More time and I would have liked to go via the Fermanagh lakes on the way back.

If planning a trip to the Island I would suggest not trying to do it all in one hit choose a half: North or south of Dublin. Oh, and as for cities I would choose Belfast over Dublin any day of the week.

The South West is gorgeous, though it does seem to rain A LOT. Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, Cork to Tralee, all worth seeing.

As would I. Dublin is a seedy dump IMO.

As a native of Irelands glorious capital I have to defend Dublin. It's far from perfect; too expensive, often dirty and has rather little in the lines of noteworthy architecture to offer, but I think to label it a "seedy dump" is a more than a little harsh.
I wouldn't visit Dublin if I was coming to Ireland, I'd head west or south for a more relaxed slant on life. Try Cork if you fancy a few days of city mooching must people thoroughly enjoy it.

My preference for Belfast over Dublin is mainly because of size - Belfast is a much smaller city and easier to explore. But the cities don't compare to the wilderness and beauty of the natural landscape.
