Smokey and the Bandit

Just watched this last night, what a cool film! I was worried as it looks a bit dated, but I thought it was excellent! Made me really want to live in America and drive trucks haha. And that Trans-Am!! Tell me there are millions for sale and they are all really cheap?!

*off to drive home with banjo music playing in the car and a cowboy hat on*

We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there...."

I was into American cars in quite a big way about 10 years ago and I can tell you that a Bandit type Trans-am in good nick will not be cheap. A six cylinder one might be but it probably wont have the same style nose and who wants a six cylinder?!

Other good films to check out are:

Cannonball (with David Carradine)
Cannonball Run
The Driver
The Gumball Rally
Convoy

All good 70s road/car/truck films :)

A fella I know used to have a 7.something trans-am, same as the bandits only in white and with nitrous. That was about 15 years ago.

Got smokey and the bandit and cannonball run on dvd, the kids love em.

I've spent some time in Trans-Ams/Firebirds/Camaros of that vintage. As interesting and nostalgic as they might seem on TV, they're total crap -cheaply made, ugly interiors, and seriously underpowered (especially compared to earlier ones).

Ahh I see you forgot to wear your rose-tinted glasses!

Agreed though - not the nicest places to be on the inside. My 1990 Mustang had an interior made from the cheapest plastics known to man...

What is this film you speak of, a film about trucks, sounds riveting

Tis a cheesey 70's filem starring Burt Reynolds and a black Trans am. It's better than Knight Rider.

Its a film about a trucker bootlegging some beer across state lines in a huge truck, whilst his mate plays with the cops in an American muscle car. The sheriff after him is hilarious. It sounds bad but actually I thought it was quite fun!

As for the underperfomring cars, I mean, surely no matter how plasticy the interior is, I just want something that roars like that, rear-wheel drive, and leaves smoke everywhere you go! Awesome. V12 400hp would do me fine haha.
