Tree Felling

Just got a notification that on the 9th Dec EDF Energy will be cutting off the electricity from 09:00----15:00 to fell some trees.
Forgive me if I am wrong but as they have lost most of their leaves and stopped growing for the winter isn't it a bit of a stupid time of the year to be cutting off electricity?
I accept the electricity being off for an emergency but I hardly see tree felling as an emergency when they give you that much notice.
Why dont they do it when the weather is a bit warmer?
My central heating is electricity dependent for the pump so goodness knows how this will effect the older generation and those with babies.

Probably some plonker thinking "These trees need trimming" the plonker in this case being a 3rd party[Householder] who goes to work or is out all day.

Grrrr-furstraighted wif stoopidity.

If you pay a premium on ur electricity you should as for some money back. Needless to say it is a very stupid time to do it

Ask them not to

But then you won't have anything to bitch about when one comes down and takes an electricity cable with it leaving you with no power for days...

There's never a good time for power to go off, but if they're just lopping branches off it's probably better for the trees to do it in winter as they're dormant, plus there's a lot less tree to tidy up when there's no leaves.

As has already been pointed out there's never a good time for the electricity to go off. In winter it affects heating / kettle / lights etc, in summer you would worry about the contents of your freezer and fridge. So they cannot win.

This is the right time of year for felling / pruning as the trees are becoming / are dormant, thus they will not be adversely affected by loss of leaves and so on during the growing season. It is also a very sensible time to be doing it from the security of supply angle. If a tree / branch is blown down by a winter gale and takes the electricity lines with it, you would lose power for longer than a day. So doing pre-emptive tidy up work is good practice.

Become a tree hugger and chain yourself to said tree.

That should give you some time ;-)
