Bike locks/chains/security help please

Hi guys,

I've recently got my first bike, a K4, and was wondering if I could get some advice on security.
I've been lokcing around websites and there's so many different options I'm not sure whats good and whats not.

I'm looking to ideally not to spend over £100.

With chains, what length should I get and what do I put it around?

Sorry about the basic questions.

Thanks

midzt

p.s Sorry if this is in the wrong section

All i use is a motrax padlock and an urban chain and just lock it around the rear wheel, all i know is apparently a thatcham approved lock and chain is better than a non approved one.

Use an oxford chain lock on the rr,just put it through the back wheel & round the drainpipe whigh goes into the ground. If anyone cut through it,it would still be a mission for them to get it out of the back yard as you also need a couple of ramps to get it out.
More chance of escaping from alcatraz lol.

Got to be almax, nothing else comes close. Bit more than you are loking to pay but definately worth it have a look at their wall of shame shows how the competition stacks up

Thanks for the replies.

If I get an Almax chain, what kind of length do I need to get? 1.5m?

What lock is recommended, I figure that's as important as the chain?

Cheers

Agree with this, you can get better chain and locks than the oxford & probably the motrax, for cheaper - they're just popular brands... however none will beat the almax :)

There's been a few threads on ground anchors/ chains recently have a browse through them lots of good info.

I'd be looking at a 1.5m chain

Lockwise, I'd go with what almax recommend is the best, if it's still squire then I think squire have a good name for themselves. No point buying an unbeatable chain then putting a jokeshop lock on it.

i have a 1.8meter chain and it only just manages to stick my 2 sv650s together. If the chain is just for home use, get a 2 meter if possible.

If you need it to fit under the rear seat or in a bag get a 1.5 meter

My security is

1.) garage alarm (sensors) £35
2.) B&Q 1.8 meter 20mm link chain £22
3.) This padlock £20 http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.js...ry&icamp=ns_12

4.) oxford disk lock alarm £29

5.) Postcode on every panel/frame/wheel using this pen £2
