Thumb Brake
 

Hi all,

I'm looking at modding my K6 SV by switching the rear brake to thumb operated brake as I've been told I can't ride my bike due to ongoing medical issue with right knee, but the sv is my only transport.

Does anyone have any experience using thumb brakes?

Does it effect the braking power at all? Does the orignal lever have to come off, or does stay on and is still usable along with the thumb brake?:confused:

Any and all info much appreciated.

hmm no idea about thumb brakes but hears another idea that comes from my quad, use the front brake lever to operate front and back so just link the back up to the front master cylinder with a double banjo , not sure about this in the wet though :S

Don't try to join it to existing system - fluid will just go into the old master cylinder, being the line of least resistance.

Quads have the advantage of 4 wheels, hence you're less likely to fall off. I shudder at the thought of both my brakes being applied with no control over the distribution, and no Honda engineer having thoroughly tested it first.

I wouldn't want the rear joined with the front. Richie's post looks interesting.

The other problem is presumably you would have to inform DVLA/insurance etc?

There's a company/website out there that modifies bikes for folk who can no longer ride a standard bike, it was in Ride a while back I will try and have a look.

the Honda VFR800 has a sliding front left caliper that is connected to it own small master cylinder which applies the rear brake...
So give the front brake a big hand full then the rear also applies too....
