Bar end weights: One now weighs less than the other - problem?
:smt073
ok so when i came off my renthal bar end scraped its self away a good 5mm deep and about 10mm squared will this have any affect on the bike EG handling until i get new ones as i can feel the weight difference in my hands when holding the undamaged one and the damaged one?:-s also whats the best weights to get the renthal ones are £15 and quite small and not that heavy any way, but is lighter better or hevier? PS i have renthal streetfighter bars (25mm i think ? standard sv size) cheers |
Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
generally speaking the heavier the weight the more stabilizing effect it'll have, the payback is in heavier steering, depended on rake, how twitchy is your front end?, if it's standard I doubt you'll notice.

Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
erm not that bad but have done a few thing since i last rode it properly and no its not standard the forks are droped so 5mm of stantion is showing at the top triple rear is raised 38mm (30mm dogbones and 8mm longer shock)
dident seem that twitchy to day but only went round the block a few times got up to 80mph and it dident seem that bad on islands |
Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
you'll have to forgive me never taught metric, but 25mm is an inch I think? so just over an inch and a half at the back and about 1/6 of an inch drop at the front ?
I take it you have wide bars, which will minimize any imbalance, it's near enough to stock to not cause any issue really, more a cosmetic. Cheers Mark. |
Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
yup have wide bars (renthal streetfighter bars) and yeh was just to quicken up the turn in a bit
and thanks :) i should be able to aford some new ones after i purchase my longer rear brake line (fitted rear sets) |
Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
Renthals generally have thicker walled tubing, so normal bar ends won't fit. I had this problem when I had my Bandit with Renthals fitted and couldn't get Motrax or Oxford ones to fit. I bought some Hebo plastic bar ends from an MX shop and never noticed any increase in vibration or detriment to the handling.
All the bar ends do is damp out some vibration and tidy the ends of the bars up. |
Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
+1 won't make any difference to the steering as the amount of deflection to steer the bike is a couple of mm at low speed. Is just for vibration.
Be right. |
Re: Bar end weights one now ways less than the other problem ?
ok cheers lads :)

Re: Bar end weights: One now weighs less than the other - problem?
really heavy bar ends do decrease vibrations but most bar ends dont effect much, i always use small chrome bar ends which are as heavy as standard but smaller so i can turn in quicker.
