Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
Snapped??? Wow! Better at 5 than 50mph

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
Hmmmmm, suitably out of focus to preclude any clues, I presume it's just snapped, and good clear image of both ends would help and some history.

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
I was glad when mine snapped when pulling off..not too much damage to the engine casing. Wouldve been worse tearing down the a13.

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
In this weather, you may have been actually doing 5mph, but the wheel could have been spinning at 100 :p

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
Tight spot on chain.... Plus wear and tear.... How many miles the chain done? Any who I take my hat off to you for riding in this weather :) mines tucked up for winter....

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
ive only had one chain snap on me in 26 years..that was about 3 years ago..doing 140 on my tl1000s.....luckily for me it did no other damage, apparently it flew outta the back of the bike and landed 200 yards away in a field just missing a bloke walking his dog:smt016.....lol he picked it up( was red hot) and brought it back to me...

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
It's more likely to snap at that speed, actually pulling away probably strains it a lot more than when everything is nicely moveing.

Re: ....seriously? At 5mph?
Have you adjusted the ride height recently?

Chain's done just shy of 8000 miles. It wasn't particularly well looked after between November last year and when I had the bike dropped off in October-time (also did basically zero mileage), but it's been cleaned, lubed and adjusted to be lovely again since. Looking at the edges of the pin it's just snapped through. Just glad it happened while travelling so slowly. Though it was an absolute ball-ache to get the bike the 200 metres back into the garage across the sheet-ice that covers my estate :D Had to use an improvised pulley to get it up the kerb because there just wasn't enough traction to push it hard enough without assistance. Luckily my local bike shop are absolute god-sends, and they've actually dropped a new chain off through my letter-box, so I'll be back riding tonight. Which is handy, since I don't have a car, and wouldn't have had a Christmas otherwise :) |
