Regulator-rectifier: Where is it? (Curvy)

1 Attachment(s)
I've been having some issues lately with my battery holding charge so I've got hold of a brand new regulator and want to fit it.

It says in the Haynes manual that the regulator should be mounted to the sub-frame under the pillion seat but it isn't on mine. There is a box the same size and shape as the regulator under the pillion seat but it's not mounted to anything and is just velcro-ed to the plastic covering. There is an alarm under my pillion so some of the wiring has been modified at some point.

So, is the box I've circled in the picture the regulator? I don't want to unplug anything or mess with it till I know what it is.

Cheers, Ryan.

Re: Need help identifying where my reg / reg is on a curvy.

That's the ignition unit, the regulator-rectifier is under the right side rear bodywork, which will need removing for access.

It's a grey/black finned casing about the same size as the ignition unit.

BTW, the unit doesn't seem to have 'fins' on it like the replacement reg has so this is why I'm not certain whether it's actually the reg.

The black box has the following written on it: "Made in Japan - J54 20F0 BB7708 9L23"

Ahh right, thanks for the quick reply Sid. I didn't think it looked quite the same as the reg. Can you tell I don't have the slightest clue about SV's?

I will remove the R/H side rear bodywork tomorrow and fit the replacement reg. Cheers :)

I believe the standard answer to the question in the title is "currently fitted to a CBR"......;)

Cheers Mark.

If you are removing the side panels don't forget to undo the little cross headed screw tucked up by the rear indy. One for each side. Circled in this pic.

This is a very good point.
