CCT Change Tomorrow

I'm planning on changing my front CCT tomorrow as it rattles and I have a couple of spares now from FleeBay. I plan to take the carbs off (a bit) to get my sausages in to get the little bleeder out but is there anything I need to be careful of?

The bike is currently on front and rear stands and the tank is off (well non existent - another story) so I can't really test it afterwards. I have made the tool to hold the CCT thingy in and that works fine is it just a case of:

Remove cap
Unbolt
Wind in
Remove
Clean the hole
Add some gasket liquid
bolt the new one on
Pull out the spring holding tool
put on end cap

????? is there more to it and should I watch out for anything?

Ta - si

Yes, make sure your front piston is at top dead center on compression stroke when changing CCT.

Ahh, ok I see, I think, just been reading the manual, so:

Remove the inspection cap
Remove the crankshaft end cap
17 mm socket, turn anti clockwise until the F mark aligns with the notch.

ok sorted, anything else I need to look out for and do?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a CCT?

Cam chain tensioner Jayne, the Curvys have a reputation of bad (ish) ones, pointies were good but if the tensioner doesn't do it's job properly the engine gets lunched. When the cam chain starts rattling it's time to have a look or run the risk of a large bang.

edit - normally they can be cleaned but I got couple of spares just encase.

Thank you for that, I like to learn things when they are of use to my biking knowledge. You are a star. Hugs :thumleft:

Right, except there are two times you see F mark. One is on compression stroke and other on exhaust stroke. If you have valve cover off you can see which stroke you are on by cam position.

ok, does it matter which F I use for this? I'm not planning on taking anything else off really?

Most of time it is fine but if you don't get it at TDC compression there is risk that timing chain will jump teeth.

I would definately advise you do it right, it is easy enough, just same cam position you would use if checking the valve clearance.
