Torque link bolts
 

Hi can anyone help me. I have noticed that the bolt that secures the torque link to the swinging arm can freely rotate by hand. The nut is secure on the bolt but it seems to have a LOT of play. The bolt at the other end attached to the rear brake caliper is okay and tight but I am not sure if the other end with(loose bolt) is meant to be like that to allow the link arm to flex with the suspention going up and down . Does anyone know what I mean or what Iam talking about? Not that great at explaining it eh? PS the bike is a 1999 650s if it makes any difference...

Mine was very worn where it had worked loose (as I noticed when I replaced my torque arm), as maviczap says though it should be tight. I'd remove it, check it, replace if required and make sure it's tight.

Thanks folks for all the input, I am pleased that you all knew what I was talking about . I shall get it tighten up before I go back out on it again. Might have to look out the snow plough attachment as well by the looks of things.

Tighten to 35nm - BUT check that nothing has been damaged too much while loose! A rear caliper whizzing round with the disc would make a mess.

Might have a spare, as it's not a standard bolt, it's shouldered.

One side of the torque arm where the bolt passes through has a larger diameter than the other.

Thanks people for all the input. the said bolt was removed cleaned and stud locked back on. No damage done, maybe just noticed in time .
