Re: £189,000 speeding fine!
I hate the idea that a fine is proportional to your wealth. Round here it would mean the scum bags do the crime and pay sod all.
Go on tell me it is any different here then. Seriously that is one hell of a fine for a slightly heavy right foot in a car quite capable of doing such speeds safely. however to do those speed in a Swiss village with their speed nazis' is asking for a wallet battering |

Ridiculous

Re: £189,000 speeding fine!
I think he should have paid more the prat.
I'm all for opening it up when appropriate but not in a village. As he was a repeat offender maybe a day in the A&E trying to put together all the bits of people hit by thoughtless b@st@rds like him might have been proprtional. Quote:

I think the idea of such a heavy fine it to stop him doing it again, but i dont no why they donlt just take his license away

If he'd been given a £600 fine, given his obvious wealth, would that have discouraged him in future? I think probably not. I think that therefore the punishment should be proportional to wealth in cases like this, but should also be appropriate to the crime. As for the car easily being able to achieve the speed safely- it's the question of just because you can, doesn't mean you should. His speed through a village is not acceptable- if it was on an empty, straight motorway, that is a different consideration. End of the day- break the law, get caught: Tough- accept it. |
