Car wont start

My girlfriends Clio has been out in the cold and not started for a good few days as she's been unable to get to work.

The freezing weather has obviously depleted the battery and now although the lights etc turn on, there isn't enough charge to turn the engine over.

What are the solutions? My neighbour has a trickle charger which he uses on his van but he's not in for me to ask to borrow. I don't have jump a neighbour might but I'm unsure if that'd solve it and the car would start on it's own tomorrow?

well try it, chances are the battery was on its way and the weather has killed it off....... but give it a jump and see if you can charge the battery up

So you reckon a new battery would be needed? If that's the case I'd rather not **** about in the cold tonight as I've been working the last 7 days and back in tomorrow so wanted a rest!

Might not be a dead battery, although Wideboy could be right.

Could be something daft like she left an internal light on or somemat like that, which has drained the battery

But a cold snap does tend to finish a ropey battery off.

If you get it started, take it to kwik fit or similar and they'll put a battery tester across the terminals. This will tell whether the battery had had it.

Definitely the cold weather, no internal lights were left on and all the dash lights etc turn on when the key is turned just nothing when turning to start so it's not completely drained.

Where's the best place to source car batteries? Halfords appear to be a rip off and she needs one asap.

Local auto parts centre such as Unipart, go to a garage such as quick fit etc altho most people like quick fit will source their batteries from places like Unipart

Yellow pages ;)

In my area Wilco are about the cheapest. You don't have one in your region

Ring round for a price
