Can motorbike engines be steam cleaned safely?
I'd like to use my steam cleaner on my bike engine and was wondering if it's ok to use and if so should I be particularly careful of anything?
Thanking you kindly. :) |
Re: Can motorbike engines be steam cleaned safely?
I think it is ok to do, just dont have it too hot. Try and avoid area's where there are electricals, and try and avoid area's of the bike where you might wash out grease (swingarm, footpegs, that sort of thing)

Are we talking steam cleaner as in commercial vehicle type--------ours would blow the bike over almost.
Pressure washer as domestic Karcher Steam cleaner as in domestic carpet cleaner or small handheld |

It's a steam cleaner roughly the size of a Henry Hoover.

No problem just keep the nozzle away from wheel bearings and electrics.
I use the same thing myself, especially good for cleaning hard to reach corners, the rad and oil cooler. Usually hot enough to dry almost instantly and I always give a fairly liberal spray with WD40 afterwards and wipe with a clean cloth Doesn't do any harm to have an oil can handy and give the cable ends, centre stand and such a quick squirt after---every thing that should be lubricated clean with a touch of new oil. |
