Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
I have a 2005 sv650s
The bikes speedo only shows approx 50% actual speed. I can live with this as i just think every time i see a speed camera 30 means 60 ect..... Anyway I filled my bike up to the brim and went for a ride. A few days later the petrol light came on, so i filled up straight away and put 11 litres to fill it back to the brim. The clocks showed i had only done 44 miles when the light came on. (remember my clocks only read half speed, so they will also only record half distance) But that still only works out 88 miles for 11 liters, is that normal? Can anyone one with a bigger brain than me work out how many mpg i get? I think i provided all the info you need. My sv650s curvey did 120 miles using 12 liters i think |
Re: I have a really stupid and complicated question
Roughly 36mpg.

Re: I have a really stupid and complicated question
no it's not normal. closer to 45 shouldn't be difficult all running well. (exactly what your curvy did)

Re: I have a really stupid and complicated question
I get more than that to the gallon on my K5 too so something seems a bit off there, unless you're absolutely ragging it everywhere?
Oh, and you might already know this, but your speedo rotor is possibly the wrong one for your clocks and that's why it's reading half-speed. See here: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=117360 |
Re: Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
Yeah sounds like you've got old 4 pole one fitted and you need 8 pole

Re: Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
mmmmm.... thanks for the replies. You have me wondering now. The bikes got a custom Fuel exhaust and it backfires quite a lot. Will try another full tank and see what i get.

Re: Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
If you've done 88 miles in " a few days " you're probably doing short trips which in these frigid days will crucify your mileage.

Re: Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
change your speedo drive as yc says, that would annoy me lol

Re: Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
Don't forget to mention the half miles thing when you come to sell it, will you?

Re: Fuel consumption question - with a twist.
If I fill mine I can get 140 miles with varied riding before the light comes on. Something is definitely up!
