Holiday from hell

Well not quite, but on my second day in Thailand we were headed up a tight upward hairpin, and I hit something slippery, possibly oil, bike went out from under me and then both me and the bike slide back down the road. Thankfully the bike stopped but I continued into a drainage trench about 3 foot deep, and kept rolling.

Now before you all think I'm just a rubbish rider, I'd already done over 1000 bends no problem and two other lads far more experienced than me arrived right after and also went over, but I came off worst.

Broken clutch lever and foot peg, few scratches to the bike, but the bad news for me is a busted elbow, plus some big bruises.

Arm is in a cast but after getting a second opinion the doc in the UK says it will probably need surgery to put right and a couple of months immobile. I have cried in frustration, not pain, as it doesn't really hurt, and now face coming home early as if I can't ride I'd rather not be here, especially when I have to have help with everything from cutting up my food to removing my bra! And if I do need an op it should be sooner rather than later, but I plan to come back in October to do the second week as It's fantastic over here.

So whereas I was hoping to show you all some photos instead I'll bring the x-ray to Soho and you can take it in turns to take the lid off my coffee for me.

Ouch - I'm sorry to hear that. Gravity can be a real nuisance sometimes.

It's not much consolation, but at least you can eat most Thai food with one hand, and the weather is better over there.

On balance though, I'd head for the UK if you're going to need your elbow re-set. The less time it has to heal in the wrong position the better.

Hope you're not feeling too bad,

Keith.

I'm sure that before much longer you'll have a long queue of volunteers.

Well as resident Super hero, all round gent and mega perv i think its only right that i be at the front of the queue.

It'll be a horrible job i'm sure but i'm a selfless kinda guy i guess.

Hope the break dont need surgery and dont rush back, i;m sure the scenery there is a lot prettier than it is here and you wont be riding no matter where you are.

As has already been said: Bugger!

Really sorry to hear this, I know you were really looking forward to it as well. Having been out there last year, it's a long old flight just to go and crash, but I did the same thing a couple of years back in Spain. Got all the way out there fine and then slid the bike down the road into some armco. I got away with light damage and carried on my holiday, I'm sorry you came off worse.
