Honda nc24 1987

Hi guys!!! I had the problem with the spark plug thread breaking of in the cylinder head. Well just to keep you informed I stripped the hell out of the engine & got the snapped thread out with a thread tap & was lucky to have it come out clean so am now cleaning the entire engine......... so if anyone knows the best way of cleaning the carbs, cylinder head, exhausts & cam shafts then please let me know as most parts are thick with carbon but then again it is a 20 year old bike........ & the rest!. Someone asked why a novice would buy a bike this old well thats my answer ........... to learn all the ins & outs!!!. Still got to put it together mind you but hey everything is all in order just needs a damn good scrub. The one thing I cant get is a cylinder head gasket so can anyone help me out there or should I use some of the gasket sealer out there?????. this may be a daft question but do most nc30 parts fit a nc24?????. Please keep me informed guys as I do want to learn all the tricks that come with experience & new riders have to start some where. But cheers for all the advice guys some people helped me out a lot cheers & all the best. Ian xxx

Any chance of a photo of the stripped engine, I've always wondered what one of these little beauties looks like in bits.
The gaskets should come as part of the set you will need for a rebuild anyhow. Should set you back about £70.

Are you actually reading any of the responses people have put?

You've already been told an NC30 head gasket fits.

I beleive, if my memory serves me correctly, that I informed the young pagan of this

But I have a small voice, and often get talked over, so no wonder he didn't pay attention

Red Herring, I have some photo's on my facebook photoalbum I think, if you follow the link in my sig :)

For cleaning the engine, You can use paraffin I guess, but remember when you reassemble the engine it will have absolutly NO oil anywhere, except in the sump.

I beleive it is advisable to use a mixture of molybdenum disulphide grease mixd with engine oil when re-assembling the engine, so that the moving parts have lubrication until the oil reaches them from the sump.

Many NC30 parts are interchangable with NC24's; they are very very similar engines. As I told you, and as FD reminded you, NC30 head gaskets will fit, although they have a small tab hanging out near the exhaust - this does not interfer with the seal formed though.

regards,

Matt

P.S - for the torque values of bolts for the heads etc etc, if you don;t have them, contact Spannerman on here, who has a haynes manual with the correct torque figures for all NC24 fixings
