CB600 Hornet starting problem.
 
Hi All,

My m8 has a cb600 hornet which refuses to start .... however we changed the plugs with still no joy.... Bike is turning over but wont fire up.... Opened the carbs via the drain screw and the carbs are getting petrol ..... Im charging the battery tonight to try again tomorrow so any help would be great....

good call with the battery, bear in mind you could flood it as well, have you tried bumping? jump start may also help just till it fires then kill it and try again without help, any safty switches eg clutch/ sidestand etc you may need to bypass

Yep tried to bump start it with no joy....... We are gonna try again tomorrow when the battery has fully charged again.....

how hard did you try to bump start it?
Charging battery won't make a difference if it won't start from a proper bump.

Two things:

Is it the carb model? if it is, whip the carbs off and check the pilot jets aren't blocked. The small ones next to the main jets. Even thouhg there's petrol getting to the floats it may not be getting through the pilots.

My money is on this. Toot in the float bowl has made its way into the jets.

Also, when were the valves last checked? Low compression from too tight a shim can also cause this.

Got the bike started today....... Seemed to be the battery..... So happy days...... Thats one bike started now to spend a bit of quality time with my sv650s.... Havent started that since July last year.....
