carb removal- stopping fuel flow

'99 sv650s. taking my carbs off to access camchain tensioners.

when i remove fuel hose from fuel pump petrol keeps flowing out, all over my kitchen floor (cue grumpy housemates ;)).

why?! surely engine off > fuel pump off > no fuel flow?

taken carbs off before without problem, bike has been running fine if a little rich.

cheers.

Your vacuum tap is stuck. Put a bolt up hose.

cheers thought it would be something like that. will plug it for now. tap is the bit under the tank rather than bolted to right hand side of the frame right? and will it be fixable or need replacing?

The pump is bolted to frame on RHS. The tap is screwed onto the tank on LHS.

Give it a tap with a screwdriver handle if that doesn't sort it I've probably got a spare. They occasionally stick.
