MOT question

yeah this has been asked before but when is search i get nearly every thread ever created come up

basically im hoping the bike to be finished and ready for MOT by next weekend (fingers crossed). My problem is i'm unsure whether or not I'll have a van so i may have to ride it, i know you can ride to and from an MOT station providing you can prove that's what you were doing but my bike has no tax either and is SORN...... obviously cant tax it until i have the MOT

I've done it a few times before without an MOT but knowing my luck I'd chance it and get pulled

p.s. dont hold you breath

Re: MOT question

You can ride it to a pre-arranged MOT

Tax/SORN status doesn't matter if going to a pre-arranged MOT. It'd be a very anal plod that did you between the MOT station and the post-office!

Re: MOT question

Just beware you must have a minimum of 3rd party insurance in place if you're on the road no matter what the status of your bike's MOT or VED

Yeah, you can ride to anf from an MOT station for a pre-arranged test. You cant stop anywhere en route either way, so stopping for tax is a no no. Just ride home, tax online, print the receipt and you're done

Re: MOT question

There was a test case, guy stopped for fuel and a pack of fags and it was deemed reasonable.

All the same, I would not push the boundaries on that one. Home > petrol > MOT.
Only time I would chance it is if there was a post office on the route home.

cheers guys much appreciated, think I'll just fill a few jerry cans up for the bike rather than risk it.... knowing my luck i'd get pulled over

Re: MOT question

Obviously you still need insurance in place, but don't most policies state that cover is invalid unless you have a valid MOT?

How does that work legally? How are you supposed to do it?

Obviously in reality we just get on and do it. I've driven MOTless cars to and from tests countless times (I once arranged a test 200 miles away because I wanted to get my SORNed Triumph Spitfire over to my parents house in into their garage). But never with a bike.

I need to MOT my bike actually, first time I've done one. Do MOT places have a loan bike they can give you for the day so you don't have to hang around?

You're lucky you didn't get a tug for that - it can only be a reasonable distance.
