Clutch cover oil leak.

So, I took the curvy out for a blast today (around 150 miles) as the weather was spot on and noticed a small oil leak. Basically, if you look at the photo it looks like its coming from the bolt directly above the oil fill window. Its not a big leak and I put some paper under her and its around a few drops every couple of hours but just wondering if its anything serious or a common problem? Any advice would be much appreciated.

not serious at all. to fix it just take cover off (with bike on sidestand), then check clutch cover on flat surface to ensure its not warped, and check bolts are straight. then just refit the cover with silicone sealant and should be fine. loosen/tighten bolts in a diagonal pattern to avoid warping clutch cover.

Nice one - yeh figured it wasnt that serious due to not that much oil being lost, i'm guessing abit of liquid gasket should sort it in terms of a sealant?

I'm yet to give it a proper long road test, but it's not leaking so far.

i wouldnt generally advise replacing the o-ring as its £15 from suzuki! bloody pirates. i use silicone bathroom sealant, does the job.

just a couple of additional notes, as I've tried to fix mine four times and failed on all but one.

When you take the cover off the o-ring will be to big to go back on so cut it and super glue it together, put it back in with the cut at the top.

I used silicone, it didn't work for me so I used loctite gasket sealant in the end, this worked.

when putting it all back together make sure the surfaces are clean and oil free

MJC is very correct about the warping - this is not unheard of and will most likely mean a new cover

Don't over tighten the bolts, this will also cause it to leak. Those bolts need to be torqued to 10nm.

If the oil is old bin it, if it's new ish stick it back in again, after a couple of goes it can get expensive on the oil lol

If you don't succeed first time don't worry, do it again, mine is now finally fixed.

as for the o-ring, I did replace mine but it still didn't fixed the problem but that and the loctite gasket sealant did.

agreed that dediacted sealant will probably do a better job, i just use silicone cos im a pikey.

and finally if you have the bike on the sidestand theres no need to drop the oil, the level should be below the clutch cover at this angle.

I had this problem also and tried numerous methods. Ended up buying a cover clutch cover in the end £56 from suzuki.....

The loctite rubber gasket sealant is the business and works everytime cant remember the ref number unfortunatley but Halfords stock it
