dog bone sizes
 

hi guys just bought a set of 35mm dog bones for my SV650 as far as i know every thing is still standard.

firstly has anyone had massive trouble with the front end giving way under
stressful cornering

secondly is it the ride height that is increased by 35mm or is it the actual dog bones that are increased in length

i know, i know is should have research before i bought but it was purely on impulse at 2 in the morning!!

I would guess 35mm jackup plates, but could be dropdown plates! I cant remember if thats rider seatheight or tip of the tail, but I'm sure someone can confirm from here.

well it said its a raising kit so it will be lifting the tail up but like you said im not sure whether it means 35mm at seat hieght or tail hieght or even if its the bar length or what !!!

35mm at rear seat I'd guess... measure it when you fit them

Yes the front is absolutely sh**e as standard, soft springs, no damping. Jacking the rear end up will make this worse as you will put more weight on them.

yeh i get that the front forks will be under alot of stress but what im asking is whether anyone has actualy had a tyre slip right out? and yeh i was thinking seat height that would meen that there would be roughly 40mm diff in the tail right??

Yeah lots of people have tyres slip out. Sometimes you dab your foot and get away with it, sometimes it hurts.

OOOPS! My error, meant pillion not rider seat. Duh. :smt120

Sticking to the road/line depends on a lot more than just geometry. Tyre choice, pressure, road surface, suspension age and setup, rider weight, riding style.

Loads of stuff really, trial and error is the way forward.

Give us some more info on that and we can start to work out whats going on.

regarding front suspension, changing the fork oil to thicker one makes a huge difference, almost makes the suspension acceptable (depending on your weight i guess...)
on my wife's SV (she's only 100lb) front end would botom out on almost every bump... i changed the fork oil, i think original "oil" weight was something like 5, and i put in 20. 450ml in each leg - cheep solution that works well - it's no gsxr front end, but it feels a lot better, really, A LOT BETTER... and even under my 200lb it does not bottom out now.

well im at 85-90kg with all the gear on dependent on the time of day it is,, dont work in lb's sorry
and cheers for the tip will definetly try it before dipping into the pocket for gixxer forks
