Replacing the standard (uncut) exhaust?
 

Hi All
Stuck at work not near either my bike or my manual, so I have this question. I have bought a standard exhaust to go on my Sv (curvy). From the pictures its an uncut standard one which looks like it has best part of the rear twisty header on? And up to the join of the front (see pic). To fit this to my bike do I need to remove wheels and/or swinging arm etc or is it a simple case of threading it through a torturous route?

I think you need to remove the front header, and then thread the pipes up to atteach to the rear header, before refitting the front

Hi mate

Just replaced my exhaust the other day and found it remarkably easy! :D

The hardest part I found was loosening the clamp on the rear cylinder down pipe. Just a bit of an access issue solved with a long t-bar.

Other than that I think its two other bolts, 1 under the bike and the other on the rear right pillion peg.

Gently persuade the exhaust away from the bike and..... Happy Dayz :p!

If I can do it anybody can! You'll see when you look at your destruction manual!:D

Thanks for the replies. Its good news. I was hoping it was straightforward and not one of those horrible 5 hour jobs!:)

It is easy job until you start round one with the front studs :-P

Don't forget there are 2 (pointless) bolts under bike you will need to fight.

The front header stays. I only just found it was recessed around the header when I cleaned it. God knows how hard it would be to get the header bolts out!:shaking:

YC is very right you you know.

To give yourself a fighting chance hehe, you need some plus gas, some heat, rubber mallet and possibly some wood(to use as a drift)...the front down pipes can be VERY stuck even after you've managed to remove nuts.

I'm not sure you can remove the mid section(which in an uncut system obviously has can) without loosening the nuts on front down pipe.

If thye've never been removed, expect a fight with the front nuts, bolt on the clamp that holds the mid section to the rear stub.

I'd do a search on site with regards to removing exhaust system. There are some good tips from Sid Squid, Spannerman, YC.... on that.

Make sure, all tools to be used are good quality and clean/remove any crud from in/around allen bolt heads , nuts. Try to do it as 'right' as you possibly can, first time to save yourself possibly grieve.

Not to tryign to scare you lol. Personally, I'd have just stuck a cut can on :)

Thinking about it, the last owner replaced the engine, so nothing should be too seized........
