Yes.

Not a good idea to use washing up liquid on them (due to the salt in it) but plenty of other things are good.

Obviously make sure they are properly dry afterwards, blow out any holes etc.

Yes. Wash them with anything you like - as long as you rinse them with clean water it doesn't matter what you use.

My preferred is Tesco own brand cream cleaner, perfect for polishing pistons.

Indeed. I use washing up liquid myself (cause I am tight) so long as it has been given a good rinse afterward. The salt doesn't come into effect until after a period of time if left. Same as anything really. Including road salt. Wash it off soonest and no damage will be caused.

Hmm, hot salty water in a contained environment, I wouldn't because the rate of reaction increases with heat. :smt077

I tried it with my top yoke after polishing and it bloomed in the washer. So it had to be polished again! Mind you, our machine does use nearly boiling water.

I have just stripped and cleaned my Hope callipers from the mountain bike and used brake cleaner and a stiff nylon brush, that took off all the dirt and the small amount of corrosion that had built up. Rinsed them out with hot water and left them on the Radiator to dry for half an hour.
They are back on the bike and I am able to pull one finger rolling stoppies again now. :plod:

+1 for the dishwasher, to be honest if anything needs a clean and it fits, it goes in there.
