Really bad mpg

Has anyone had any problems with really bad fuel consumption, I usually get 120 miles to the take but now I seem to get only 70 if I'm lucky.

Its all started on a rainy day when I think water got to the spark plug, I've cleared it out and changed the sparks but I seem to have a few issues since then, cold starts it can stall now and then the revs goes up and then drops out killing the engine but it seems to be running fine when warm but the main thing is the mpg is really low.

Any one come across this before?

What model/year?
If its a curvy check your choke cable and choker plungers on the carbs.

Dont know then but I guess its running rich perhaps because the cold start system is stuck on?

Check the fuel injectors aren't choked. You can buy a petrol fuel flush that cleans the injectors as the petrol is burned by the engine. The injected models have an auto cold start choke on them, so lift the tank, and check all the linkages. Regrease them if you have to.

Also check the air filter isn't soaking wet. If it's damp wet, then change it for a new one.

got the auto cold start working it seems that the problem is caused from the engine running on one cylinder when the rain got to it, need to check the sparks on both front and back, and check the coil pack to see if its firing, will let you know if the milage goes back to normal
