Scottoiler fitting questions.
 

How easy is it to fit a scotoiler to a pointy. Is it hard to locate the vaccum connections and route the oil pipe along the swingarm. What's involved? is there any butchery of the bike?

Ultimately is it worth it?

Easy peasy. You can attach the scottoiler resevoir to the subframe under the pillion seat and have the pipe going down towards the battery, down behind the left side heel guard and attatch to the swingarm with either cable ties or a good tough glue.

No butchery involved, and yes its worth it

This is looking into the bike from the throttle side. you should be able to see the connection,its the curved thin black pipe. It should, i think be a little rubber cap, just take that off and plonk the scottoiler pipe on

Not done it myself, but watched a friend fit one to my other halfs K5. Looked quite straight forward. Theres some specific instructions IIRC on the Scottoiler website that will explain it better than I can. IIRC you need a special T piece connector so make sure you order that to.

As for worth it. IMHO yes it is. Its not a fit and forget you'll still need to check your chain at regular intervals, but once you have the drip rate set right it will signifcantly increase your chain life.

I had one fitted to my GSXR from new, bikes done 20,000 miles now and I have never ever adjusted the chain.

Easy as you can access the vacuum on the rear cylinder quite easily. Helps if you have, or have access to, small hands.

As Fizz said, there is a specific helpsheet on the scottoiler website which is very clear.

I mounted the reservoir under the rear plastics between the two seats, with the top enough into the underseat storage so that it could be filled and drip rate adjusted.

Very simple to fit, a bit fiddly but nothing difficult. And you do not need any special connectors (for a pointy at least, might do for the curvy).

A tip when fitting the vacuum, take the rubber cap off the end of the nipple (that you push the vacuum on to) with pliers... don't spent 30 minutes fondling it with your fingers like me as mine wouldn't budge that way! 30 seconds with the pliers and it was straight off :roll:

Anybody know the cheapest place to buy one?? Just put an offer down on a house so I'm counting the pennies now :(
