Loss of electrics - No neutral light
 

I use my SV once a week on a friday, i usually start it up the night before to check it out.

Just went out to the shed and turned the key, everything fine, pulled the clutch and started it. As per usual it started and died out after 5 secs or so, i usually have to add choke at this point to keep it going.
Went for it again with a touch of choke and as it started it totally cut out. This seemed strange... even the neutral light went out.

The bike is in neutral and i cannot get any lights at all on the dash. The sidelights do not turn on either.

I retried everything with a fresh battery.

It appears that the ignition barrel is having no input to the bike.

Can anybody help me out with what i need to do here???? Is the ignition barrel a likely culprit? It is a difficult part of the bike to play with (ie i do not know how to hot wire :()

Check your fuses, the ones under the seat. I'm guessing you have a curvey from what you have said in your post, if so then you'll need to check the main 30amp ignition fuse as well, which doesnt live under the seat with the other fuses. Look down between the frame on the right hand side in front of the infill panel and theres a green translucent plastic cover, the main fuse is inside there.

and if it is a curvy check that the seat bolts haven't chaffed through the wiring under the seat as that will earth the whole bike and blow your fuses.

I feel pretty stupid now... i'm supposed to be an engineer! It never even crossed my mind.

No worries, glad you sorted it :cool:

I would definately advise checking for chaffing where Dirtydog suggests, also check around the headstock to. ( I had problems with my curvey chaffing wires in that area ) The other place the looms rub through is around the rear subframe, but thats a plastics off job to check though.
