Told off for where I parked at Tesco...with a twist.

Popped into Tesco (Brent Cross, for those that know it) on the way home from work, and I usually park on the footpath in front of the main windows, right by the doors. I have previously had a 'debate' with a trolley fella about whether I was blocking the way or not, but the bikes usually park there and at the time of night I go, it's not in the way.

Tonight, there were two cars blocking access to that footpath, and I decided not to try to squeeze past as I don't like annoying people just before I leave my bike unattended (especially as someone could 'accidentally' bump my bike with a trolley to make their feelings known).

So, tonight, I went round the corner, and parked in my other usual spot - on another unused bit of footpath to the side of the Parent & Child parking. It's out of the way, a bit underlit, but not causing any obstruction. I get off the bike, and a security guard comes up to me (on his fag break) to ask why I was parking there. I got ready with my, "But it's not in anyone's way" response, but before I could, he said, "I mean, you can park over here if you really want, but it's much better if you put it right outside the doors in front of the windows then we can keep an eye on it for you. It's harder for us to watch out for it if you park it round here."

I almost feel over in shock

I just said thanks, but I didn't want to get in anyone's way, as there were cars parked there (on double yellows). He said ok, but in future, put in out the front where we can keep an eye on it.

Sometimes nice things just happen :)

You should have asked him if it rains would he stand over it with an umbrella until you finished your shopping

You should ask for that in writing. Put one copy on your wall at home in an ornate frame, and send another to Tesco demanding this man be promoted!

But he was on a break. As soon as he had finished his cigarette and was back 'on duty' he would have changed personas and had your bike removed and made into a baked bean can.

Lucky escape I'd say.

I had the same with the guys at the big Tesco near me. I used to ride right up to the kiddies rides and park next to them by the front doors, so that the guy on Security could keep an eye on it for me.
