GSXR front end swap - what bits do I need?

hello peeps..

names John I live in cheshire , north west uk

Am srry to say but i looked over every post i could find on this but most of it makes no sence to me what so ever!....

All i want to do is fit GSXR forks to my 2002 SV650s The upside down ones that look gold with brembo calipers. I have never done anything like this befor. most i done is fit an extreme high lvl pipe and race can, and mod the carbs abit, and fit k&N air filters.

Am in the uk. i tryed asking on Sv650.forum.com but they are mostly Americans and not that helpfull and all seem to have way more money than sence. money is somthing i dont have alot of right now.

what i really need is a list really what i need what forks, clipons stuff like that. i have no idea what will fit.. or if its a case of get what u like and make it fit. my old man is they guy who understands all the other posts and can make anything work. but we dont have much time togeather so am kinda doing it solo.

PLEASE HELP! .. i just want this SV to like Mint!.. as i cant afford to get a new bike, once i know what i need i can start to shop around and see what i can find.

like this. ( but i will use the stock clocks ) ie just the forks wheel calipers clip ones M/S and ill use Pazzo shortys with it. maybe

Re: GSXR Frunt end swap Help need'ed

Those look like GSXR1000 forks to me as they have the BDC, see where I fitted a set to mine.
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=145606

Essentially though, TWF bearing, GSXR1000K5-6 yokes + forks + mudguard + calipers (or brembos), GSXR600k8+ wheel (lighter than previous wheels), TL1000S bars, steering stops from some guy in America.

Simples.

would the key locks still work with the gixxer k5 - k6 yorks? i know you said i would have to mod them for the stearing stops to work... would that be just having to drill and tap some holes and put some bolts in?,,,

Re: GSXR front end swap - what bits do I need?

I didn't drill them for lock stops in the end, zader pointed me in the direction of someone on the TMF forum who was selling nylon ones that just bolt onto the radiator mounts. Much easier.

Not got round to trying the lock yet, I don't really need to for my bike but the GSXR1000K5/6 lock fouls on the mount for the front subframe, I think you should be able to remove the bottom as you don't need it for the SV. Not tried the original lock either.

Mid process of doing the change myself.

hey steve, can i ask you where u got the parts from? am not having much luck finding parts. i found a complete frunt end in america for $600 thats around £300 ish + 234.20 dollers to post it USPS so call it around £500 for the lot. here is a link to it. not sure if they would work well tho.

Hyperpro fork springs
Motul Expert & Factory range fork oil 20w
An jet/air set up from JHS but thats £300 :-S
Brembo radial master cylinder
HEL brake and cluck lines

If you're patient and phone around, you'll get one for that kind of money in the UK, probably with the wheel and fender as well.

Must say, you're coming up to the wrong time of year to be buying though, they tend to be cheaper over the winter.

Re: GSXR front end swap - what bits do I need?

I found a whole GSXR K3 (with non-USD forks) that was being broken for parts on eBay and got the whole front end from it for £330 + £35 for delivery (That was for Forks, central stem + bearings, bottom yoke {got the top yoke elsewhere for £18 delivered, again from eBay}, clip-ons, front wheel, and slightly damaged mudguard - I didn't get the brakes as I already had a set of GSXR Callipers)

From looking around, the newer USD forks can be quite a bit more!

Re: GSXR front end swap - what bits do I need?

I was day dreaming a few weeks ago and did one of those parts searches for breakers on line. I had two places quote me £600 for the complete front end. That was with a wheel and the tls clipons. I didn't see any parts so I can't comment on the quality but I thought it wasn't too bad considering you could get a few quid back selling the old ones on.
