Fuel Cap Drainage Issue
 

Howdy All

When cleaning the 955i, I have noticed that water is collecting on the inside of the fuel cap around the lip that is under. When I then open the fuel cap, water is spilling into the fuel. Its only very small amounts.

However, there is a drainage hole. It appears it is likely to be blocked as water isn't draining out. Any ideas for clearing said pipes?

Wasn't sure what to use etc to "poke" the hole!!! :D

Air would be best, preferably in the reverse direction, if you have a footpump they often have a tapered nozzle intended for inflating airbeds etc, that will workif you put a hose on it and onto the stub on the underside of the tank.

Note; Triumphs have two stubs on the bottom of the tank, (usually at the back on the left - your bike may be different), one for the filler well drain, (the one you've got trouble with), and another that connects to the filler cap itself and is the vent - it's connected in the way it is so that the fuel vent can be connected to a charcoal canister on California type emissions controlled bikes.

I used some thickish wire & WD40 on the SV. Just push backwards & forwards with a spray every now & again.

You'd want to be careful (ie not too aggressive) using wire inside thin walled steel tube. It is too easy to tear a hole. Don't ask how I know.

I thought it would be easier if you just sucked on the drain pipe at the bottom. :wink:

If your going to do Sid Squids method, either ensure the fuel cap is closed or cover the fuel tank filler with something to ensure what ever is going to get blown back up the pipe does not end up in the fuel tank. :)

Depends on what is in there. 99% of the problems I have seen in small spaces such as these has been insects that have built a nest... which can be about as tough as a slug of resin to move.
