Is it still possible to haggle at dealers with a p/x? Kawasaki Wanted!

Hi

I want to chop in my SV for a 2006 zx6r. I know I will have to top up to the value of the bike with cash and I was wondering would a dealer even entertain haggling if I was p/x?

I have never brought from a dealer before so this is probably a stupid question. With summer round the corner would I get 'much' more cash off it was a cash sale? The only problem is that I need my bike to commute to work so can not be without a bike for any length of time. It would cost me £23 a day to get into work on the train so any saving would quickly disappear if I could not get a new bike quickly

Am I going to get absolutely done over in terms of value on the new bike and my old one?

yeah p/x is the biggest wiggle room when it comes to haggling.
The px offer on a bike always covers the house handsomly. I wouldnt go stupid and make sure you still get the tax mot etc the initial offer would surely have included.

dunno about part ex, but ten percent haggle is acceptable, when buying it without that aspect. And that advice was from Paul the 6th, so I used it.
I got 300 quid off my new bike for being cheeky :-), tried 500 but they laughed!

I'd haggle EVERYTHING and ANYTHING.
First the price of the bike you want, then the p/ex for your SV. You'll end up haggling over the cost to change. When your close to a deal, ask them for any extra's, heated grips? New tyres? whatever takes your fancy to secure the deal. Make sure it's freshly serviced, and CHECK the oil to make sure it's nice and fresh (golden brown or black sludge?). If you have to finance the difference, make sure you get finance in place before you even set foot in the place, unless they're offering 0%, but highly unlikely on a used bike. Don't let the b**gers get away without taxing it before you pick it up. Stick it too them (but don't quite get thrown out of the shop) If all this works, find somewhere else to get it serviced, they'll never forget you! Good luck :)

Sounds interesting! Thanks for the advice.

My bike needs new tyres, is it worth getting them before I put it in for P/X? Or is this money down the drain?

I will also use cash not finance to up the make up the difference, hopefully this is better!

I wouldn't bother with washing it let alone new tyres.

Would I not get a better price if it is at least clean?

defo haggle, my old sv is now in the dealers for sale at 200 quid more than i paid for it 1year ago from a dealer, and it has 4,500 more miles on the clock, and the lower fairings removed as they were damadged.
