Shark S800 crash results

I tested the Shark I bought last year properly at East fortune at the weekend after a highside coming out of railway bend. A slow right hander double apex bend doing about 30-40 mph.

I landed on my head and rolled and the first thing that happened was the visor flew off. There was no impact on the visor, the impact was all on the back. The plastic visor retaining points snapped of and by the look of the tiny clips its almost as if it was designed to do this.

The helmet survived and didn't crack but is extensively scratched so it won't pass scrutineering again.

I've already bought the same helmet again so Its fair to say i'm pleased with the results.

Alot of visors seem to pop off in a crash for some reason.

Even watching BSB etc they all seem to do it.

Yup I've crash tested a Shark S800 too about 2 years ago. Big scuff on the side, wether I was to use it again, is doubtful, somebody else might, but not me.

I bought another one too!

I wonder if there are certain areas of the helmet that if they impact, the visor pops off? I'm not the greatest at physics though so could be talking nonsense...

There's loads of pictures of crashed helmets without visors. The helmet shell with deform (albeit temporarily) to some extent, and visor mechanisms are usually fairly flimsy compared to the rest of the lid.

By no means guaranteed to come off, but does not seem to be unusual either from some accounts I've read.
